Does your product contain gluten?

Our cacao is gluten-free and is processed in a gluten-free kitchen, however there may be traces of gluten in our kitchen.

Is your cacao suitable for vegetarians/vegans?

Yes, cacao is a 100% vegan, non-animal product.

Does your cacao contain caffeine?

There is a small, but insignificant amount of caffeine that occurs naturally in cacao. It also contains Theobromine, a stimulant similar, but gentler than caffeine. Theobromine has mood boosting properties but you wonʼt have to worry about feeling nervous or jittery like old mate caffeine.

Iʼm allergic to nuts, is your cacao suitable for people with nut allergies?

Cacao is made from the seed of the cacao fruit, it does not contain nuts and our cacao is processed in a nut-free kitchen, however there may be traces of nuts in our kitchen.

Where do you source your cacao beans from?

We source our single-origin, organic cacao beans from a small family farm in Alta-Verapaz, Coban, Guatemala.

Where is your cacao made?

Our cacao is processed in San Marcos La Laguna, Lake Atitlán, Guatemala. Here, we lightly toast the beans over wood fire, hand peel each bean while overseeing quality control of every bean, then we bring the cacao beans to a mill and form the milled paste into molds.

What makes your cacao ‘ceremonial?ʼ

We understand that cacao is a sacred plant spirit with the ability to open the heart. The powerful effects of drinking pure cacao is becoming globally recognized. We respect the spirit of this plant and we are guided by the cacao spirit. Our ancestors have been working with cacao ceremoniously and we carry forth their wisdom into the process. When you experience our cacao, you will taste more than cacao, there is love and spirit.

What makes your business a womenʼs cooperative?

Our business helps to support and provide work to Mayan women, ranging from young mothers to grandmothers. We are able to provide jobs for up to 15 women in our village with the sales of our cacao.

Does your cacao expire?

Cacao has a long very long shelf life and will last for up to several years in a cool dry place.

Is your cacao organic?

Yes.

How many doses of ceremonial cacao is in a 1 lb block?

A ceremonial dose is 30-50 grams, or approx 1 - 1.5oz. In one block you will get 11-16 servings. it is not recommended to consume more than 50 grams of cacao per person.

How can I purchase your cacao?

You can check out all our online distributors here, our distributors are all reliable and quick to send out the cacao once you place your order.
If you are currently visiting Lake Atitlán, you can find our cacao in most of the ‘tiendasʼ (shops) around the lake.

Do you sell wholesale?

If you are in San Marcos La Laguna and you buy from us directly at Bosque Encantado, we offer a direct wholesale price.

Do you offer volume discounts?

Yes, for orders of 100 pounds or more. Please email us to discuss our wholesale discounts.

Do you offer any tours or classes?

If you are in San Marcos, we are happy to offer you a tour and demonstration of our cacao process, by appointment and by donation.
